Have you heard of Lasik surgery? You would not be unique or odd one out if you have never heard of the procedure; after all, it is a new entrant into the eye corrective measures. Lasik surgery is therefore one of the most inventions to have ever happened in the world.
One of the most growing health problems in the world today is the myopia and hyperopia. This refers to a situation in which one is either short sighted or long sighted. Being short sighted or long sighted is a problem that arises from poor eye lens function. It can be corrected through use of a corrective eye lens o eye glasses.
The cause of the short and the long sightedness is therefore poor focusing of light entering the eye. The light entering the eye through the retina is not being focused as was due. As a result the image generated is not sharp or it’s blurred. There are two causes of this. In the high myopia, the eyeball is a longer than usual. The physiological myopia, the length of the eyeball is within the acceptable limits and but the problem is a higher power of the cornea for the axial length.
Traditionally, the correction for this eye lens abnormality has involved the use of external lenses on an eye frame. In the later stages, the use of contact lens emerged as the top of the rank solutions to eye care. Among the elderly, the use of cataract eye surgery has been successfully applied to correct cataracts and other conditions that may inhibit eye views.
The emergence of lasik surgery is a testimony of advancement in eye lens correction. The full meaning of this phrase is laser – assisted in situ keratomileiusis. In non scientific language, this means that the keratomile is removed at the original place and under normal physiological and pathological conditions. Lasik surgery is an advance technology in use of contact lens of performing keratotomy.
Lasik surgery has lots to thank Dr. Jose Barraque who invented the technology in the 1950 in a poor Colombia country. The technology uses the microkeratome to slice the sides of cornea. This procedure is what is known as the keratomileiusis.
To use this Lasik surgery service, you would need the recommendations of a doctor. It is not just one of those that you take as a measure of plastic surgery.
